Period 1 World Issues - Week of October 19-23

Monday October 19 - Notes and class discussion: Technological Change and World Population Growth (hunting and gathering, agricultural revolution, industrial revolution).
Notes and activity: calculating demographic data.
Homework: Prepare for quiz on calculating demographic data tomorrow.
Tuesday October 20 - First half of class in computer lab researching Demography Presentations.
Calculating Demographic data quiz.
Wednesday October 21 - Finish Calculating Demographics quiz. Notes, discussion and assignment: Population Pyramids.
Thursday October 22 - Research period for Demography Presentations.
Friday October 23 - Research Period for Demography Presentations.
Presentations are to be done on Thursday October 29 and Friday October 30. Make sure you are ready!

Period 4 Grade 9 Geography - Week of October 19-23

Monday October 19 - Work on Soils and Natural vegetation regions questions p. 170 1-7 and #13. Reminder that these must be dome for homework.
Climate Regions challenge assignment.
National Parks of Canada preparation for video presentation.
Tuesday October 20 - Video Presentation - Canada's National Parks: Sacred Spaces. view and complete worksheet.
Wednesday October 21 - Finish National Parks video presentation.
Power Point presentation on National Parks.
Thursday October 22 - Unit 1 Culminating Activity Research - National Park Slide Show Project.
Friday October 23 - National Parks Slide show Project research.

Period 1 World Issues - Week of October 13-16

Tuesday October 13 - Introduction to Demography with definitions of key terms of demographic measurement. Graphing World Population exercise started with a graph from 1CE to 2000.
Homework Reminder - Continue to prepare for Test on Thursday October 15. See last week's post for topics.
Wednesday October 14 - Complete World Population Graphing exercise.
Thursday October 15 - Test!
Friday October 16 - Demography Country research for presentations started today.

Period 4 Grade 9 Geography - Week of October 13-16

Tuesday October 13 - Work on Geography Jeopardy group activity. This is the first Culminating Activity of the course.
Wednesday October 14 - Work on Geography Jeopardy Group activity. Made notes about soils of Canada.
Thursday October 15 - Present Geography Jeopardy games.
Friday October 16 - Finish Big Map Assignment. Reading and questions about Soils and Natural Vegetation Regions of Canada p.170 #1,2,3,4,5,6,7,13.

Period 1 World Issues - Week of Oct. 5-9

Monday October 5 - Finished viewing Roger and Me and then discussed the video worksheet. Went to computer lab to view Learning Log Rubric and explain expectations for Learning Log. Students had time to work on this.
Tuesday October 6 - Sustainability and Ecological views of the world.
Wednesday October 7 - Computer Lab Period - Work on Learning Log (must be handed in today), Newspaper Portfolio and/or Seminar Presentation.
Thursday October 8 - Sustainability and Ecological World Views - group work and discussion of significant related issues.
Reminder: There will be a test on Thursday October 15 on all topics covered and discussed to date. These include: Point of view, bias, globalization topics and issues, measures of development (social and economic), different ecological world views and sustainability, 5 worlds classification system and characteristics. Friday October 9 - PA Day. Enjoy the Thanksgiving weekend. Reminder to prepare for the test on Thursday.

Period 4 Grade 9 Geography - Week of Oct 5-9

Monday October 5 - Completed Climate Region Maps and chart on back of map. Learned about Climate Graphs and practiced making some.
Tuesday October 6 - Video Presentation: Canada- Top of the World. Complete the worksheet.
Wednesday October 7 - Factors Affecting Climate and Chapter 13 questions. Soils of Canada.
Thursday October 8 - Ecozone activity and quiz. Latitude and longitude activities. Friday October 9 - No School - PA Day - enjoy the long weekened.
